The CPU Golden Lions Taekwondo team brought home multiple medals and awards from the 10th Tirak Taekwondo International Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand, representing Iloilo Taekwondo Team with pride and skill.
Last October 26-27, 2024, the CPU Golden Lions Taekwondo team, representing Iloilo Taekwondo Team, showcased exceptional talent and sportsmanship at the 10th Tirak Taekwondo International Tournament held in Bangkok, Thailand. Competing against 2,567 athletes from 26 countries, the CPU Golden Lions took home multiple medals and awards, further establishing themselves on the international stage.
Leading the charge was CPU Assistant Coach Alfie Diasnes, who won the prestigious Most Valuable Player (MVP) Poomsae Male Black Belt title and a Gold Medal in Individual Poomsae. Reflecting on his journey, Diasnes shared, ĢƵIĢƵm happy with the result of my performance. This is my second time competing in this event, and after winning silver medals in 2019, I set my sights on gold. I trained hard, knowing this might be my last international appearance.ĢƵ Diasnes also balanced the dual role of coach and competitor, managing his responsibilities to guide his team while preparing for his own events.
Among DiasnesĢƵ students, Grade 6 student Allyza Kaye Baninad Pasol from Brgy. Libongcogon, Zarraga, Iloilo, shone brightly. Pasol took home three gold medals in Individual Poomsae, Individual Freestyle Poomsae, and Team Poomsae, and earned the Most Valuable Player Poomsae Female Brown Belt award. According to Coach Diasnes, PasolĢƵs dedication and hard work were crucial to her success: ĢƵAllyzaĢƵs focus and commitment to every training session have been outstanding, and she truly deserved her MVP title.ĢƵ
Other notable performances included Carla Habana from Aklan, who won a Gold Medal in Team Poomsae, a Silver in Kyorugi Tag Team 3v3, and two bronze medals in Kyorugi and Individual Poomsae; Sheine de Asis from Jaro, Iloilo, who secured a Gold in Team Poomsae, two silver medals in Kyorugi events, and a bronze in Individual Poomsae; Keashine Tanguan from Pavia, Iloilo, who earned two gold medals in Kyorugi and Individual Poomsae; and Tanya Gustillo from Dumangas, Iloilo, who won a bronze medal in Kyorugi.
The achievements of the CPU Taekwondo team highlight the commitment to discipline and excellence instilled at CPU. Asst. Coach Alfie Diasnes attributed the teamĢƵs success to rigorous training and support from dedicated coaches, including Coach Alan Diasnes, Coach AJ Horlador, and Coach Floramie Navales. ĢƵThe support from parents, the guidance from coaches, and the athletesĢƵ hard work made this possible,ĢƵ Coach Diasnes remarked, acknowledging the communityĢƵs role in supporting the team.
In an interview, Emmy Rose B. Pasol, AllyzaĢƵs mother, shared insights into her daughterĢƵs journey. From her early interest sparked by watching taekwondo sessions at a local gym to intense training under the guidance of Coach Alfie Diasnes, AllyzaĢƵs rise has been marked by resilience and family support. ĢƵWeĢƵre incredibly proud. AllyzaĢƵs hard work has paid off, and we remind her to stay grounded and trust in God,ĢƵ she said.
As they bask in the success of the 10th Tirak Taekwondo International Tournament, Coach Diasnes and the CPU Golden Lions have set their sights on the upcoming PRISAA competition. Diasnes advised aspiring athletes to stay dedicated and follow their coachesĢƵ guidance.
