Through the ĢƵTrash TalkĢƵ outreach, CARES demonstrated academic excellence in action by empowering students of Culasi National High School to become responsible environmental stewards.
The College of Agriculture, Resources, and Environmental Sciences (CARES) of ĢƵ conducted a successful environmental outreach program titled ĢƵTrash TalkĢƵ at Culasi National High School in Brgy. Culasi, Ajuy, Iloilo on February 20, 2026. This initiative was spearheaded by third-year Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management students under the deanship of Dr. Jaime Cabarles Jr., reflecting the collegeĢƵs strong commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and community extension.
The program aimed to educate junior and senior high school students on proper waste management, environmental responsibility, and the long-term impact of improper waste disposal. By bringing scientific knowledge and practical solutions directly to the community, CARES has reinforced its role as a leading institution in environmental education and sustainability advocacy.
The activity featured structured learning sessions and interactive components that strengthened studentsĢƵ understanding of waste segregation, environmental protection, and community responsibility. Through engaging in discussions and participatory activities, the outreach encouraged critical thinking and active involvement, demonstrating the collegeĢƵs ability to translate classroom learning into meaningful community impact.
A significant highlight of the event was the Pledge of Commitment, in which all faculty members and students of Culasi National High School signed in solidarity together with Dr. Joyce S. Wendam and the Environmental Management students. This collective action symbolized unity, accountability, and a shared dedication to sustainable practices, demonstrating CARESĢƵ effective leadership in fostering environmental awareness at the grassroots level.
After the discussions, Dr. Joyce S. Wendam, a faculty member of CPU CARES, delivered her closing remarks, emphasizing the importance of the talk for both the community and the students. She reminded the learners not to forget the commitment they pledged, encouraged them to continue helping their community, and inspired them to pursue careers in agriculture and environmental management someday, leaving a lasting message of service and responsibility as the perfect conclusion to the outreach.
